Transfer Agent Changes in a Subaccounting Environment

Marriott Ballroom

The transition to omnibus accounts has changed the mix of accounts—direct, networked, or in omnibus positions—held at mutual fund transfer agents. This transition raises many issues, including:

  • The operational, servicing, and compliance impacts for direct customers and intermediaries associated with accounts held direct; for accounts held in omnibus positions; and for orphan accounts
  • How customer segments are identified and managed
  • What the future holds for networked accounts
  • Whether existing products, share classes, and fund policies work well in an environment in which there are multiple recordkeepers: the fund transfer agent as well as the many subaccounting relationships

In spite of all the hype, cloud computing can bring game-changing innovation that will impact and ultimately benefit the asset management industry. In this session, we will explore what operations professionals need to know about cloud computing and will offer perspectives on the most likely changes and greatest opportunities, both near- and long-term, that cloud computing will bring.
